EU Referendum - My Thoughts

Hey guys!

It's been a while. I am on a  summer break from university and I am currently in Germany. As you are most likely aware hot topic of the week or I would even say this decade is the EU referendum in the UK. It was time for the nation to decide whether we wanted to remain in the EU after joining it 40 years ago. The majority although very close decided that we would be better off if we leave the EU. Many say that this will help us save money, invest in better things, keep the money to ourselves rather than spending it on the European Union. We would also be able to reduce immigration.

Now before you stop reading this post. I am not saying that these thought processes are invalid. I do understand why many thought or are thinking the way they do but I would like to say that I am disappointed in these results and the nation has failed to understand what the possible impacts of this was going to be or knew about these impacts yet decided to take the risk because of things like immigration.
Being part of the EU made some politicians feel that there was no space for national decision making. Yes we do have to follow a lot of rules based on the EU but are they really that bad? Also leaving the EU just means that we as a nation would have to start from somewhere new and create these laws which will take a while. What I don't understand is that politicians just considered leaving instead of trying to negotiate with the EU. I mean I am not politically the wisest person but I am sure that this is possible. Doesn't it sound smarter to negotiate within a system? Why run away?  If the UK feels this way I am sure there's more member countries feeling the same way.

Migration from Europe means less jobs available in the country. Sometimes workers in the UK lose their jobs because companies hire other European workers mainly from the east to complete these jobs as they are cheaper. But wait - Why are they cheaper? It's the bosses and big companies that decide how much they want to pay. It's you as employees paying them less. I am sure your fellow European workers would be happy with a pay rise too.

Immigration  - does leaving really mean that people will stop attempting to come into the country? People seem to think that leaving the EU will reduce immigration of people from NON-EU countries. Why? Explain. I don't comprehend.

My thoughts on immigration? Well are we just going to put our walls up to everyone and let the rest of Europe deal with these people who are just trying to find a home. If people were truly happy with were they were living they would not try and leave. Are we not going to try and help them? They seem to think that sending weapons and whatever they need to continue the war will be "help" that the UK is providing which makes it a great country. Well great you are destroying their land, you really are not helping.

Throughout this post I kept saying "we" as a nation. Well guess what, I am "only" a UK citizen, also known as a migrant from the European Union more specifically from Germany. I have lived in the UK for 6 years now and as much as I complain about the weather or the food, I honestly have appreciated and loved England all this time. I saw myself as a equally important citizen of the country. It does deeply offend me and hurt me that many people in the country see us migrants as a burden. Truth is I am not sitting around in England doing nothing. I study, volunteer, work and my family pays taxes. The country helped me complete and continue my education. My parents are paying taxes just like the parents of anyone who was born and bred in the UK. Yes Student Finance does fund me as I have lived long enough in the country and I am truly grateful for that but I am planning on paying the country back. I wasn't going to disappear or run off. There are many young people that are in the same boat as me.

You see I avoided talking about the economy. The effects on the economy can be argued both ways which I understand. However the issue that has key importance to me and saddens me is the thought processes of some but not all of the 52% percent of the leave voters. Do I really want to live in a country where I am seen as a burden? We have to accept that the decision has been made and move on and try make it work now. However, I am worried about my future in the country. Are people going to start treating me differently because I am from Germany? Do I have less rights? I really hope that I won't get treated the way I am imagining it. I can already see that the Brexit decision made already people think they can talk about us Europeans as people with less value. less rights. People chatting away in pubs in the most rude way about Europeans. It does hurt. Remember we are all HUMAN. Please don't forget that we are all part of the same planet. No matter what age or ethnicity we are all the same. Just because we decided to colonise countries, build walls, name them as countries doesn't mean that we are different. We all just want to live happily. I am sure and know that the people in the UK aren't evil but don't be scared of us Europeans. Don't let your fear get to you and respect everyone equally.

This is all I have to say. Thank you if you did take time to read my view and got to the end of it. We all have our own views and I am not going to disrespect anyone that thinks otherwise but I would like to ask you the same. Please respect everyone's views.

Personality of June - Aatharan Seveal

Hey guys!

It's time to introduce to you the personality of June - Aatharan Seveal. I came across his instagram videos and was instantly amazed by his talent. There's a lot of singers out there but his voice is one of my personal favourites. As well as that he is musically talented in many ways.. He doesn't even consider himself as singer! He composes music and just loves making music. "Singing, playing the piano, violin and flute are just the assets that come with it." I wish I had those assets!
He is from London and studies Applied Sound Engineering at university. As a child he was quite naughty at home so his parents decided to take him to violin and vocal lessons at the age of 8. This is when his hidden talent for music was discovered. It all started from there. Since then he hasn't really taken it too seriously but he started now because he realised people enjoy hearing his music and he loves the fact that he can touch people in that way. I must agree that this is a real skill, wish I could do that! Maybe I can touch you guys with my beautiful writing skills haha? Maybe not.
He has been asked to and performed at university shows such as Kings of Gaana (2015) as an exhibition act and BLAS Elegance 2016 as one of the music choreos.

Who or what motivated you to start singing?

Haha, I wasn't motivated, it was something that just happened. When I was 8 years old my mum took me to Carnatic vocal lessons under the tutelage of Kalaimani Suganthi Srinesa. It was my first ever exposure to any type of music. I wasn't into music before then. As people around me started to appreciate this skilI, I guess that's what pushed me to carry on singing. I had a phase where I completely stopped singing Tamil for 2 years as I just simply didn't like it. I was into English music and would only sing English before reverting back to Tamil during A-levels. Now it feels weird to sing English songs..

I saw that you made a YouTube video about a year ago. Are you planning on making any more in the future or would you like to stay on Instagram for now?

I'm definitely planning on releasing more material on YouTube, but I tend to be very disorganized and lazy and can't deal with handling multiple things at once. I'm not going to say as to when exactly I plan to release my next video because knowing myself I'll just jinx it.

When did you start playing the instruments you play. Are you self taught or did you go for lessons?

I'm predominantly self taught in everything I play.

I learnt Violin under the tutelage of the same teacher who taught me vocal. After grade 3 onwards I became more independent with the violin. My guru gave me the freedom to explore the violin myself and teach myself things. She became more of a guide. Somewhere along the way I just felt like playing piano so I'd just experiment with it and make stuff up on it. I then bought myself a guitar, experimented with it, changed the way it's tuned so that I don't sound like everyone else and that's that. Then around 2 years ago I picked up the flute. I really liked the feel of the flute..  And how soul stirring it can sound when mastered.. which I haven't done yet lol. I don't consider myself a flautist, pianist nor a singer. These are all things that will aid me in composing music. They're just simply assets #itaintthatdeep ..

What are your aims for the future? Would you like to possibly pursue a career as a singer or is it something you just enjoy doing in your free time?

I don't mind singing, however it's not something I'm passionate about. I'm more into making music so if I need my voice in a song then I'll use it. I aim to be a Music Director in the near future hence why I've taken on sound engineering as my uni course.

Who is your inspiration? Is there anyone you look up to?

I don't know if movie characters are valid but I look up to the Godfather (not the Tamil film one lol). I like the values he has regarding men and how family should be no 1 priority.. And plus he's a don - who doesn't want to be a don (I secretly want to work for the mafia obvs)

Music wise I don't allow myself to get inspired too much as it affects the originality of my work. Many may think I listen to music all the time but I'm more so the opposite. I'm not the average music fan who downloads music on to their phone- puts their headphones in and listens while on a typical journey to school or the gym . Having said that, once there is a song I really like.. It'll be on repeat when I go to sleep. I listen to the most music during the night - mostly my own music- but then forget to sleep because I'm too busy focusing on things that can be improved

Music directors whose works that I appreciate are AR Rahman and Santhosh Narayanan.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What are your aims?

I see myself as a fully qualified sound engineer with in 5 years.

I'd also love to be in a position where I'm making music for Tamil movies. I'm looking forward to the day I get to go to the cinema and experience the thrill of listening to my music with visuals. It's a different kick to just simply listening to music on it own. My perception of a song can change when I associate it with visuals. I might not like a song when I just hear it but the same song will grow on me when I listen to it knowing the story behind it.

Favourite drugstore face mask for Acne Prone Skin!

Hey guys!

It's another Thursday and this is the second post of the acne series. As promised I will be posting about my acne tips and tricks every Thursday. I would like to introduce you to Heilerde. It's a powder that can be used for many many things. - eczema, sunburns, insect bites and many other things. Heilerde is a type of clay. As you can tell from the name and packaging it's all in German. I get this product from the drugstore DM in Germany. However, if you don't live in Germany look up Luvos Heilerde and you can buy it there. I must say that it is more expensive but as they don't sell it in the UK it's totally worth getting it. There's different packs. This is the one used to apply on your skin but they also sell Heilerde to ingest as it helps with many things such as too much stomach acid and high cholesterol. I may write a separate post about that soon.

It works wonders. Clay is very cleansing and a great way of taking all the dirt out of your skin and has great antibacterial properties. The main thing is if you have generally oily/easily greasy skin it pulls out all the dirt. Although my acne has reduced I still use this product for my acne scars. This is a great product that helps with the healing of any types of scars and infections. I would recommend using it because not only does it aid your skin but it generally balances out your skin and keeps it fresh and clean.

Another thing that I like about using this instead of other masks is that this is full of natural things rather than a mask that has been mixed with loads different chemicals.

It comes in the form of a powder and all you have to do is mix some of it with water to get the right consistency of a mask. Apply it leave it on till it fully dries out and wash it off with warm water. Finish off by washing your face with cold water to close your pores and then as usual apply rosewater which also helps balance your skin.

If you do try this product let me know how it works for you. I will be back with more acne related stuff next Thursday!

What is causing your acne?

Hey guys!

When it comes to acne we tend to get really impatient. After posting my before and after picture I received a lot of questions about HOW I cured it. However me telling you wouldn't help me. If my acne was as simple as one factor I wouldn't have suffered with it for 9 years.

You need to get to the bottom of it by starting from the beginning. Start from how thinking about WHAT is causing your acne. Annoyingly the reasons can be a combination of many factors. For some it is as easy as controlling one major factor and their light acne disappears. I would like you to read the questions below and think about which applies the most to you.

I don't just fit into one of these categories. In fact I could relate to almost every question when growing up. One thing leads to another. I first had acne due to hormones, then I tried using harsh products on my skin which lead to chemical imbalances on my skin which meant my acne got worse, my self-esteem would lower. My hormones were all over the place which led to even more acne. I would try to heal my poor emotional health by craving certain food which led to a high fat diet which again means more spots. IT'S A CRAZY CYCLE.

I hope this enlightens to as to what you may have to change. Don't worry though I will be writing several posts for every single category. I will update the acne series every Thursday! So come back and I will get you through this.

1) Do you eat lots of sweets, crisps, chips? Even if you don't eat much of them, do you notice new spots the day after eating anything of the above?
2) Do you eat enough vegetables?
3) Would you say you have a high fat diet?
4) Do you eat a lot of processed food? Do you eat a lot of Dairy food?

5) Do you feel tired all the time, even after sleeping?
6) Do you sleep enough?
7) Are you active enough? Do you go for a walk,jog..or stay in your room in your free time?
8) Are you generally always very stressed?
9) Do you have a consistent routine or does your routine change frequently? Do you even have a routine?

10) Do you use harsh tropical creams for acne? They make your skin dry and lead to other problems.
11) Do you wash your face a lot, with a lot of face washes and cleansers?
12) Do you try lots of new skincare products to get rid of your acne? (Yes that causes acne too!)

13) Do you feel comfortable in your own skin?
14) Is your self-esteem low?
15)  Does your acne get worse when you are stressed out?

17) Did your acne start around the same time as you started your periods?  (if you are a girl)
18) Do you get a lot of spots around the chin area just before your period?

19) Do you get irritated easily when you are hungry? Do you become cranky?
20) Do you crave sugar, caffeine regularly
21) Do you easily get thirsty?
22) Do you need to pee a lot?

Poor diet - If you feel that questions 1-4 apply to you then it's your diet contributing to the acne you are experiencing.

Poor lifestyle - If you feel that questions 5-9 apply to you, your lifestyle is your main trigger.

Overuse of chemicals - Questions 10-12. When spots appear we try lots of things on our skin and a lot of the chemicals are harmful and harsh on our skin and lead to imbalances and other problems.

Stress, Poor Emotional Health - Questions 13-15

Hormonal - Question 17-18 - very common among teenagers

Blood sugar levels - Questions 19-22
