Unwrapping Christmas Gifts 2014

I hope you all had a lovely time with your family and friends celebrating Christmas. We opened our gifts with a few family friends this year and I thought I'd make a small video to show you how the atmosphere was like in our home. After the video continue reading if you want to see what I got this Christmas.

They actually managed to prank me, I didn't think that they would've put a water bottle in an empty box and they even managed to film my reaction! But seriously I never expected anyone to prank me because it's usually the other way around.

Winter Wonderland - aka my little Germany

Yesterday I went to Winter Wonderland with a few friends. In the 4 years I've lived in London, I've never had the chance to go there but now that I've been I don't think I will miss any opportunity to go there.

Apart from the fact that the rides are quite pricey I love everything else about it. However as it is a free entry event you might as well go there to have a look around and enjoy the Christmassy atmosphere.
One thing I certainly was very excited about was the German style Christmas market with products from Germany. I never go to Germany during the Christmas holidays as tickets are very expensive at this time of the year. That's why I haven't seen a German Christmas market in 5 years and I was extremely hyped when I saw everything. Just like a little child on Christmas Eve.  I had mulled wine (Glühwein) and a proper Bavarian Bratwurst. Do you really think I would have left without taking a picture of them?

I owe you an explanation! What I've been up to.

Until two minutes ago I honestly didn't realise that I haven't blogged for 11 days! I knew that I haven't blogged in a while but I didn't expect it to be such a big break. The last week at school was just as stressful as it always has been because teachers start cramming in tests in the last minute and I ended up with about 5/6 exams in one week. To add to that stress I took on a project myself. I made little gifts bags for my friends filled with small gifts and stuff that I baked myself. Last Thursday night, I didn't get any sleep at all because I was up baking all night. I was going to post a picture of the bags I made, but I must've been so tired I forgot to take a picture of them!

Last Wednesday a few friends of mine and me took part at the yearly Christmas Concert at school whoop. Since I have no other useful talent (as always haha) I volunteered to be part of the stage crew yay! I actually enjoyed being part of the stage crew the last two years.

{stage crew selfie}

The Christmas tree wasn't going to get filled with gifts around it by itself sooo it was time to go get some gifts for my family and friends. That took up a lot of my time and I'm STILL not done with getting gifts and the thought of going to Oxford Street on the 23rd or 24th December makes me sick! As much as I hate last minute people, I'm going to be one of them this Christmas! :S

With all of that I had to deal with my usual weekly routine which includes driving lessons, tutoring volunteering, gym and going to my private tutors. I was also ill and the workload started getting to me so I really needed a break.

Well I hope you believe me now that I really did have a stressful few days and I only recovered lately by catching up with all the sleep I missed. I really felt like I owe you an explanation so this was explanation as to why I haven't blogged this long. I am sorry! I will make sure that this won't happen ever again and I'll learn to manage  my time better.
Also! I have a few more posts coming up in the next few days which you might find interesting so make sure you come back and have a look soon. :)

Must get Skincare product for cold winters!

Normally I review products after 2-4 weeks after I've bought them but with this product I really couldn't wait that long because it is amazing! If I did wait 4 weeks winter will almost be over and there wouldn't be a point in me telling you about it.

It is perfect for extremely dry skin areas. For many years I've been having very dry skin above my lip which has led to a darker pigmentation and it is very annoying because it shows up darker than my skin tone and this mostly only happens in winter. This magical product is called "Skin food" by Weleda. I've seen their products before in Germany but I am not entirely sure why I never had the thought to try it.

Meet Vithya Visvendra! | Hair and Make Up artist

Although I'm more of a lifestyle blogger than a beauty blogger, I'd like introduce you to a well known hair and make up artist called Vithya. She is a very skilled hair and make up artist but she also stands to me by the way she became successful. She was an ordinary girl and has worked hard and pushed herself to come where she is now. Becoming successful isn't easy and to become successful you do need to have a certain set of qualities which Vithya certainly has.
To me Vithya is one of the biggest inspirations. I personally look up top her and she motivates me to continue being an independent woman and do what I love because hard work pays off and she is a living example.
She is a self-employed make up artist who is mainly specialised in Asian Bridal Hair and Make Up, however she does do hair and make up for a whole variety of events and people. She recently worked on film sets, music videos and TV shows. She is very organised, motivated and driven which is what I would say has made her this successful.

Vithya moved in her teenage years to London; she was born in Sri Lanka and raised in Germany. She studied and graduated with a BSc Honours Degree in Biology and Psychology. She then went to London College of Fashion and qualified with a diploma in Hair and Make up Styling. Although she is based in London, she works all over the world and provides an international service.
I had a small interview with her as I was intrigued to find out more. Her answers were excellent and she gives really good advise. You can read the interview below!

1) You work very hard for what you have now but before you became a well known make up artist, how did you promote yourself?
  • Thank you. After my degree, I worked for a marketing company, so I guess I picked up a few skills on how to market myself. Facebook is a great platform, which brought success over the years, but Instagram is what made me “famous”.

2) I know that you have a very busy schedule but I've noticed that you are very organised just like me, what are your tips to stay on top of all of your work?

  • I have a personal phone and a business phone, an accountant, a business relationship manager through my bank, and also my diary and appointments book, I have quite a few things in place to stay organised. It is not easy, but I was born organised haha.

3) Where do you get your motivation from, how do you stay motivated?

  • I have written about motivation in many other blogs and posts, but all in all, my passion for hair and make up, and customer service is what motivates me. I think of how self-esteem is a huge thing for younger girls, and even Brides-to-be of course, and making a difference in their lives is an ultimate reward.

4) You have a very stressful lifestyle as well, as a lifestyle blogger this is one of the things that I have to deal with myself and talk about a lot in my posts. How do you make sure that it doesn't affect your health physically but also mentally?

  • To be honest I struggled with that for a very long time, I never knew how to find the balance. Now I go to the gym regularly, I meet up with my friends often, and have family down time, they all keep me sane!

5) What would you tell anyone that would like to be successful?

  • This is an interesting question. I think firstly you need to know the difference between success and fame. And really decide what is more important. I have always thrived for success, and fame came with it, but sometimes if you only look for fame, success might not be there, and the negativity will drive you mad. If you want success however, set yourself a timeline, a 5-year or 10-year plan, and realistically work on it. Success might take you many years to gain, but it will last longer! But for it to become your life, you have to have passion. If you are passionate about it, you will definitely be successful no matter what!

6) One thing we have in common is that we both moved to the UK from Germany as teenagers. Nowadays, a lot of teenagers are moving from one place to the other. How did you cope with moving to a new country and what advice would you give to anyone that has moved or is going to move to a different country?

  • I admit I found it very hard. I was bullied in school in Germany, and it only reduced when I got to high school, so moving to another country and starting all over again was very hard. I was bullied here for nearly two years and really struggled. I have always grown up being a loner, and also keeping my problems to myself, so that did not help. I would advise you to always talk about the struggles you are going through whether at school or with your new friends. Feeling at home may take a while, but if you understand why you moved and what the benefits are and that things will be fine soon, you will be fine. Just stay strong, and embrace the beauty of a new culture and a new life! I love London now, and could never ever move anywhere else! So no regrets there!

7) I saw the you are going to be volunteering this Christmas at Crisis UK. My next blog post is going to be about how I've volunteered the past few years for every Christmas and one thing I will be talking about is why I volunteer every single year. How did you organise your volunteering opportunity and why are you volunteering?

  • I am happy to hear that you do this regularly. I have always donated to charities, and am one of those people who will stop on the road to give money or food to a beggar, no matter where I am. I think volunteering is completely different. I have always wanted to do it, but never seemed to have the opportunity. I have been going through a rough time recently, and nearly suffered from a nervous breakdown, so I took some time out to reflect on my life. Going back to church made me realise that I have been quite selfish with all that God has blessed me with, and I decided to give to others more. So the volunteering should really do exactly that; help others, and also make me appreciate what I have! Be a better person I guess. One can try!

Thank you for the interview Vithya and for being so informative! I wish you all the best for the future. I think a lot of people can make use of this advise.
What do you think makes people successful? I am intrigued to find out what you guys think, so let me know in the comments below!

I met 5SOS in London!

It has to be one of the best days ever of my entire life. I met the cutest Aussies ever from 5 Seconds of Summer! Luke, Calum and Ashton! They are the cutest and nicest guys to meet and I'm just so happy that I got to meet and talk to them today. Ashton also mentioned that he loved my gloves that I was wearing haha so whoop compliment bonus. :) They are so cute and nice, it was definitely a good day. I met them ouside BBC Radio 1 London and I have no words left really. I don't know how to describe it.
Unfortunately Michael couldn't make it because he lost his passport such a dork haha. Also I didn't post a picture with Luke because I can't find it! It was a group selfie but I couldn't find the girl that took it, so IF YOU SEE a group selfie with Luke and I'm in it please let me know!

Skin care routine and Diet for Acne

For many years I've had to deal with breakouts on my skin because of acne. At the moment it is at its worst but I have been able to control it by monitoring the food I eat and by having a scheduled regular skin care routine.

Diet

Diet is a major factor affecting acne and this is one of the things you have control over so take advantage of it and make sure that you control your food, it will really help reduce your breakouts!
The research into acne triggers hasn't been very conclusive as research has shown no clear correlation and some research has not been supported by other. However, that does not mean that people haven't been able to reduce their acne. It is clear that every person's acne is caused by other factors. Some may only breakout when they eat certain foods or some may have severe hormonal imbalances. Personally I have noticed that my acne is affected by the food I eat e.g. if I eat a pack of Dorritos crisps I wake up with massive spots on my cheeks.  However, my acne is majorly affected by the hormonal imbalance in my body as I've developed it ever since I hit puberty and it still hasn't reduced at all.

So my best advice would be to keep a food diary, note down everything you eat and whenever you notice that you have severe breakouts write that down as well. This sounds extremely boring but I guarantee you it will definitely help you find a link! As I said before there are common triggers for acne but it really varies between each person. I've found that my triggers are crisps, chocolate, cheese, hot chocolate and sweets. Ever since I noticed the link I was able to establish that high levels of sugar, fats and dairy products are making acne worse. I've now learnt to completely leave out those foods or have them in moderate amounts. I've also started to reduce my caffeine intake and drink lots of green tea instead of coffee and I'm aiming to drink 2-3 litres of water everyday.

Skin care routine

One thing I will tell everyone with acne is that please don't use too many products on your skin as it really can irritate it and make it really dry. If you have acne you know that you will be desperately looking for products to reduce the breakouts and probably have had various skin care routines. Well that's what I'm going through as well but I've finally found a routine that is working for me. I've only been using this routine for a few days now but I can see my skin getting better. I will update you guys with my progress after a few weeks. I do this routine twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening.  I will leave the exact details of the products I use at the end of this post.

Mockingjay Part 1 (Hunger Games Trilogy) Movie Review

Has Katniss Everdeen managed to move and inspire everyone like she did in the first two movies of the hunger games trilogy? Well last night I went to watch the Hunger Games with my friend so I thought I'd like to write a quick review on it.

[Whoop that's the closest I'll ever get to Katniss Everdeen. ]

Whenever there's a successful movie it also comes with the perfect soundtrack to it. When I first listened to the soundtrack I was a little confused as the songs in it were very upbeat and as the last two movies did not have that much action I was not sure whether I was going to like this movie. However, I was completely wrong, there was definitely much more action compared to the previous 2 movies. I was so into the movie that I didn't even notice any of the songs being played in the background.

Now the storyline is fantastic. Katniss Everdeen is representing a smart, stubborn and strong female and allows the audience to feel emotionally attached to her even though she's just a movie character. She has been requested to be the Mockingjay and be the leader of the revolution to attempt to overthrow the Capitol. However, before becoming the Mockingjay she set her own conditions. One of which was to save Peeta Mellark. After being in the background a lot Gale finally gets to take matters into his own hands.

Distance isn't a barrier for friendships, it's your attitude towards it

As you get older more of your friends will be starting to move away from you and this may be to different cities or even a different country. Most people will start getting affected by these changes after they have finished their high school education. However as I moved to London at the age of 13, I had to start dealing with having friends quite far away from me. I guess I can consider myself as lucky as I only moved to a country within Europe and not across the world.

Now some may say that you will slowly drift away from all your friends after moving but true friends don't grow apart even if they don't talk to each other everyday. This is a quote that I've seen on the internet and I really like it just because I can relate to it so much.

We all have busy lives and we don't always find the time to catch up with a friend but that shouldn't mean that your friendship ends there. How many of you have them days where you just sit around and don't know what to do? How much time do you waste on your long journeys to work or school/college/uni? With the technology available now it isn't difficult to stay in touch with your friends at all. It takes a minute to send a text just to ask how your friend is and if they are okay. So why let a friendship drift away like that? If you truly love your friend you will find the time, even if you don't have time to call or text them just to make sure that they are okay. Imagine it like having a passion for something. I don't really have the time to blog, I've got A Level exams to prepare for but because I am really passionate about blogging I find the time to do it and give up most of my free time for it.

Dining experience next to London Bridge - Dim T Review

Last Friday it was my friend's birthday dinner and we went to a restaurant called Dim T. They offer oriental food - Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Malaysian dishes. So let me start off with the pros. Personally I thought the best thing about this restaurant was its location. London Bridge was right in front of the restaurant and the view from there was just extraordinary.

Now the food was not great but neither was it bad...
